• We Will Remember Them

Hoveton Parish Council is pleased to announce that Wroxham & Hoveton Lions Club has now formally agreed its proposal to purchase a WW1 commemorative ‘Tommy’ silhouette for our village. This is fantastic news and we’re sure you’ll join us in thanking the Lions Club for this very generous gesture.

The Lions Club has told HPC that this silhouette will act as a temporary memorial for each armistice period and will likely be sited in different locations around the parish each year to ensure it may be enjoyed by all members of the community. This year, at the request of the Lions Club, Hoveton’s Tommy will take pride of place on Granary Staithe, hopefully surrounded by some poppies in planters. The Lions Club hopes to have the silhouette in place by the end of this month, so keep your eyes peeled!

  • A New-Look Broads Centre

Hoveton Parish Council was pleased to welcome a representative from Building Plans Ltd to its September meeting to provide members of the Council and local residents with an update on proposed improvements to The Broads Centre. The Broads Centre (Hoveton’s ‘shopping precinct’) may soon have a whole new look, with plans underway for new and improved hard and soft landscaping, including new surfaces, seating and planters.

As part of these plans, changes will be made to the area immediately outside the Hotel Wroxham, with the removal of parking spaces creating a pedestrian-friendly zone, and roofs, shop fronts and signage will eventually be updated. Meanwhile, Hoveton’s Granary Staithe, which provides a key entrance to The Broads Centre, has also been included in the ‘phase one’ development plans.

    Broads Centre Draft Plans

With kind permission of Building Plans Ltd, Hoveton Parish Council is pleased to be able to share a very early draft plan (above) of the works proposed. It is hoped this work will be completed before the 2019 tourist season begins, so watch this space for further updates.

  • New Ways To Keep In Touch

As part of its ongoing commitment to community involvement and consultation, Hoveton Parish Council is pleased to be launching this new-look, more user-friendly website. The Council hopes this new site will enable local residents to learn more about the way the Parish Council works, the work your Council undertakes on behalf of the local community, and the ways in which members of the community can get involved in the Council’s work.

Hoveton Parish Council also recently launched its own Facebook page, which is so far proving very popular with local residents. Packed full of interesting information about your village and your Council, our new website and Facebook page are the best online resources for local residents looking for accurate, trusted, up-to-date information about matters of local interest. We’d love to know what you think about these new services, or to hear your suggestions for website and Facebook content, so please leave a comment below!
