Think Before You Park

Hoveton Parish Council recently reported on concerns raised by local residents about ongoing incidents of inconsiderate (often illegal) parking taking place on Horning Road, opposite St. John’s Community Primary School. It has been reported that at school drop-off and pick-up times, drivers are routinely ignoring the double yellow lines and yellow zig-zag lines outside the school in order to park on grass verges and up on the pavement along the Three Rivers Way, causing damage to the verges, obstructing the Three Rivers Way, and creating a road safety hazard outside the school. Meanwhile, concerns have also been raised about parking obstructions and inconsiderate parking on residential roads such as Waveney Drive and Meadow Drive, both in part caused by parking for the school.

After seeking advice from Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Police, HPC has reported these problems to the relevant parties. Offences of parking against a restriction (such as double yellow lines) are the responsibility of County Council Enforcement Officers, who have been informed of the situation on Horning Road. Your Parish Council will seek further advice from the County Council regarding possible solutions to the problem of inconsiderate parking on residential roads, and it has arranged to work closely with the headteacher of St. John’s School in terms of contacting parents and carers to encourage more responsible parking in the future.
