What is the Parish Council’s role?

Hoveton Parish Council exists to represent the interests of the local community, to maintain and improve quality of life for local residents, and to deliver services to meet local needs. Find out more about your Parish Council.

How is the Parish Council funded?

The parish precept is the council tax that the billing authority collects on behalf of a parish council. Parish councils do not receive direct funding from central government and are therefore dependent on the precept and any other income they are able to generate from the services or facilities they provide. When does the Parish Council meet?

Hoveton Parish Council’s meetings are held monthly in the Jubilee Room at Hoveton Village Hall. The meetings currently take place at 6.30pm, usually on either the first Monday of the month (excluding bank holidays) or the first Wednesday of the month. View the full list of meeting dates.

Can I give my views at Parish Council meetings?

Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings and are encouraged to do so. Each meeting includes an allocated time slot for ‘public speaking’, during which local residents and other members of the public have the opportunity to contribute to the meeting, ask questions, and express their views. What services/facilities does the Parish Council provide?

Hoveton Parish Council is responsible for providing numerous services throughout the village (including grass cutting and street lights) and for maintaining a number of amenities (including Granary Staithe and Hoveton Village Hall). Find out more about Council services.

Who should I contact with a services or facilities query?

Residents are encouraged to contact the parish councillor responsible for a particular service or facility or to contact the Parish Clerk. Contact Hoveton Parish Council. For services/facilities that are not directly provided by Hoveton Parish Council, residents are encouraged to raise queries with those responsible (our Report It! page provides further information).

What is the Parish Council’s role in the planning process?

Decisions on Hoveton’s planning applications are made by two planning authorities – North Norfolk District Council and the Broads Authority. Hoveton Parish Council does not decide applications but is informed of all planning applications in the parish and is a key consultee. Find out more about planning.

What role does the Clerk play in the Parish Council’s work?
