• Road Closure (St Peters Lane)

We’ve received notice from Norfolk County Council that, owing to a burst main, the use by vehicles of St Peters Lane from a point 460 metres east of its junction with Stone Lane for a distance of 50 metres eastwards will be temporarily prohibited from 28th November 2019 to 4th December 2019 for the duration of the works, expected to be about seven days within the period. If necessary the restriction could run for a maximum period of 21 days.

Alternative route is via: St Peters Lane, Stone Lane, Tunstead Road, B1354 Horning Road West, A1151 Stalham Road, St Peters Lane.

  • Wroxham Bridge Works Update

Earlier this year, work took place on Wroxham Bridge to repair a brickwork wall which had been damaged and to carry out maintenance on a steel deck plate. One lane of the A1151 over the bridge was closed while these vital repairs were being carried out, and Hoveton Parish Council was advised at the time that a full road closure of the bridge may be necessary in the future in order for further works to be completed.

Norfolk County Council has recently advised that these further works – a larger scheme comprising of additional stabilisation/underpinning work to the retaining wall plus maintenance of the steel bridge structure – are expected to take place in early 2021 (not in early 2020, as previously expected). The work may be brought forward should any unforeseen deterioration in the steel bridge or wall be noted, but the County Council has advised that this is not anticipated, given the current condition of both elements.

  • Road Closure (Horning Road West)

We’ve received notice that Norfolk County Council has made a Temporary Traffic Order affecting the B1354 Horning Road West from a point 50 metres northwest of its junction with Station Road for a distance of 60 metres north westwards, because of Network Rail bridge inspection.

The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) between 09:30 and 15:30 on Tuesday 26th November 2019 for the duration of the works, expected to be six hours within the period. Alternative route is via: B1354 Horning Road West, A1151 Stalham Road / Norwich Road / Wroxham Road, A1270 Broadland Northway, B1150 North Walsham Road / Church Street, B1354 Church Street / Wroxham Road / Coltishall Road / Belaugh Road / Horning Road West (Rackheath, Beeston St Andrew, Crostwick, Sprowston, Coltishall, Salhouse, Wroxham, Belaugh, Hoveton, Horstead with Stanninghall).

We’ve received notice that Norfolk County Council has made a Temporary Traffic Order affecting the A1151 Norwich Road from a point 230 metres south of the B1140 Salhouse Road for a distance of 50 metres south westwards in the parish of Wroxham, because of Network Rail bridge inspection.

The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) from Monday 21st October 2019 between the hours of 09:30 to 15:30 for the duration of the works, expected to be 6 hours within the period. Alternative route is via: A1151 Norwich Road / Wroxham Road, A1270 Broadland Northway, Salhouse Road, Norwich Road, B1140 Mill Road / Bell Lane / Salhouse Road, A1151 Norwich Road (Rackheath, Salhouse, Wroxham).

  • Stalham Road Speed Limit

Hoveton Parish Council has been contacted by a number of local residents who would like to request a reduction in the speed limit for part of the A1151 Stalham Road. At present, once Stalham Road’s 30mph zone ends shortly after the Brook Park roundabout, the speed limit as vehicles travel in the direction of Stalham is 40mph until drivers reach the national speed limit sign. However, many Stalham Road residents have expressed the view that they would prefer to see the 40mph zone abolished and the village’s 30mph zone extended to the national speed limit sign.

Bearing in mind that the 40mph zone is located in a residential area of our village, Hoveton Parish Council supports residents’ requests for a reduction to the speed limit in this location. All requests for speed limit changes must be put in writing to Norfolk County Council and all written objections received will be noted in a report to the cabinet member responsible for planning and transport. Residents may contact the County Council directly (Legal Officer, Chief Executive’s Office, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DH) about this matter, though your Parish Council believes a coordinated approach from local residents and the Parish Council itself will have the most impact and will hopefully result in action being taken.

Therefore, if you would like to see the speed limit on this part of Stalham Road reduced, please consider writing a letter to Norfolk County Council to request a speed limit change and then forwarding this letter to Hoveton Parish Council by 31st October (letters to be sent to Cllr Alex Howe at [email protected] or 2 Littlewood Lane, Hoveton, NR12 8DZ). Hoveton Parish Council will then collate all letters received and submit these letters to Norfolk County Council as part of a larger submission package from the Parish Council and the village as a whole.
