Anyone with a keen interest in local history will be interested to learn that The Friends of St Benet’s Abbey and Parrabbola are currently busy creating a performance to mark 1000 years since King Canute granted land and property to establish St Benet’s Abbey. This will be a community play (theatre made of the people, by the people, for the people) and it will take place in the summer of 2019 at the site of the St Benet’s Abbey ruins.
Brian Abbott is researching and writing the play for Parrabbola and he’d like to hear local stories about St Benet’s Abbey, as well as personal memories or thoughts about the site. Questionnaires have been made available to more than 2000 local residents, asking for stories and offering the chance to be involved in the play. If you’d like to take part in this project, or to find out more about the anniversary celebrations, contact The Friends of St Benet’s Abbey ([email protected]) or Parrabbola ([email protected]).
